2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

New for 2017

Changes for 2017 include updated styling; additional infotainment, convenience, and safety technologies; and a new Drive Mode selector.

A Value-Packed Crossover

The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe is an updated version of an already-solid family crossover. Refreshed for the 2017 model year with new styling elements and added tech, the three-row Santa Fe builds on the stellar foundation of the previous model. It’s a thoughtfully built, practical crossover with the value buyers have come to expect from Hyundai.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe is only offered with a single powertrain option, but it does everything it needs to do exceedingly well. A 3.3-liter V6 is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It produces 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque, allowing the Santa Fe to tow up to 5,000 poundswhen properly equipped.

It may be able to tow like a traditional, truck-based SUV, but the Santa Fe doesn’t drink fuel like one. An advantage of a car-based crossover is that you can have a large vehicle that doesn’t have abysmal fuel economy, and the Santa Fe proves that. It gets an EPA-rated 21 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway) with front-wheel drive* and 20 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway) with all-wheel drive.*

New for 2017 is a Drive Mode selector that allows the driver to switch between Sport, Eco, and Normal modes. These modes change the behavior of different vehicle systems, including the electric power steering, to suit different types of driving.

Features and Trims

The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe is a five-door, six- or seven-passenger crossover utility vehicle. It’s available in four trim levels with multiple option packages, priced starting from $30,800.**

Reflecting Hyundai’s emphasis on value, even the base Santa Fe SE comes well equipped. Standard features include chrome-tipped exhaust, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlight accents and daytime running lights, power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth®, and Hyundai’s Blue Link connected-car system. A Premium Package adds a power tailgate, heated front seats, leather seating surfaces, and other features.

The SE Ultimate includes all of the applicable standard features from the SE Premium Package, as well as 19-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Android Auto™, Infinity® premium audio system, heated steering wheel and rear seats, memory system for the driver’s seat and side mirrors, and ventilated front seats. A Tech Package adds several electronic driver aids.

Alternatively, buyers can also select the Santa Fe Limited, which also includes the standard features of the SE Premium Package, but with a different seating configuration. It replaces the second-row bench with a pair of captain’s chairs, converting the Santa Fe from a seven-seater to a six-seater. This model also adds LED taillights. On top of that, a Limited Ultimate model adds the same equipment as the SE Ultimate, but with the six-seat configuration.

Design

Hyundai continues to improve its styling with every new model and update. The 2017 Santa Fe is a refresh of the current-generation model that debuted in 2013, and all of the changes help enhance its already-handsome looks.

For 2017, Hyundai gave the Santa Fe a redesigned front fascia with brushed-appearance front grille and new headlights, LED daytime running lights, and available LED fog lights. At the back, there’s a tweaked rear fascia with new taillights and a new dual chrome exhaust design. New wheel designs complete the changes.

The interior gets a standard 5.0-inch color LCD display audio system, which is paired with a 7.0-inch touchscreen display with Android Auto™ smartphone compatibility. That’s just the tip of the iceberg for new tech features. Buyers can also get an 8.0-inch infotainment system with navigation, third-row USB outlet, and QuantumLogic® Surround and Clari-Fi™ music-restoration technology.

Buyers get as much space as they do tech. The Santa Fe boasts 146.6 cubic feet of total passenger volume, plus 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space with all seats in place. Folding the second and third rows yields a cavernous 80.0 cubic feet of cargo space.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe includes anti-lock brakes, Vehicle Stability Management with ESC and traction control, Hill-Start Assist Control, Downhill Brake Control, rearview camera, and a full complement of airbags. Optional features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, a multi-view camera system, Smart Cruise Control with stop/start, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and high beam assist.

Bottom Line

The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe is a stylish SUV that's big on value and performance. If you're in search of a smart, sophisticated, and capable crossover, you've found it in the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe.
