2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
New for 2015
The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution gets an update for the 2015 model year. The newest version loses its Recaro sport seats, but the MR trim comes standard along with a few items that were optional in the past, including keyless entry and ignition and a touchscreen audio interface. In addition, all models get heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals and new front cupholders.
For the Racer Inside
Mitsubishi is calling all driving enthusiasts. Although the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution enters its final year of production, it’s still one of the most exciting sedans on the road. Where other makes and models focus on superficial styling and gimmicks, Mitsubishi’s engineers trod a more purposed path by tinkering with their motoring messiah, promoting the gospel of pure road-going bliss, and delivering automotive nirvana to the masses.
Despite a cautious aesthetic, the 2015 Lancer Evolution continues the nameplate’s legacy of delivering laser sharp handling and spirited driving performance at a fraction of the cost. Indeed, where rivals (luxury and otherwise) struggle to deliver the same all-encompassing and communicative driving experience of Mitsubishi’s iconic performer, the Lancer Evolution continues to cement its reputation as one of the best handling cars in its price range.
Powertrains and Performance
The Lancer Evolution, or “Evo” as it’s known in enthusiast circles, is your four-wheeled chariot to driving joy. Lurking beneath the hood is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that doles out 291 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. MR models (more on trim levels in a minute) are mated to Mitsubishi’s excellent six-speed Twin Clutch Sportronic® Shift Transmission (TC-SST) automated manual transmission, complete with shift paddles on the steering column and a five-speed manual transmission is standard on GSR models. Regardless of which model you choose, however, power is routed to all four wheels courtesy of a proprietary Mitsubishi all-wheel drive system dubbed Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC).
Think of S-AWC as the Evo’s “secret sauce.” That’s because it directs engine torque to the outside or inside rear wheels depending on available traction, meaning the wheels with the most grip on the road receive the most power. In addition, the Active Center Differential (ACD) has three driver-selectable modes - tarmac, gravel, snow - allowing the S-AWC system to adapt to various driving surfaces at your beck and call. The result is super levels of cornering, near-telepathic control, and a whole new kind of confidence in virtually any weather or road condition.
Features and Trims
The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is a compact performance sedan that seats five and starts at $44,180.* The model comes in two trim levels: GSR and MR.
Standard exterior equipment on the GSR model includes 18-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and foglights. Interior appointments add to the experience, with standard highlights consisting of full power accessories, cruise control, keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Tech and electronic standard features include a voice-activated electronics interface, Bluetooth® hands-free phone and audio streaming, a six-speaker sound system, and USB/iPod interface. Rounding out the Lancer Evo’s exhaustive features list is a 6.1-inch touchscreen display.
The MR is a contender on its own, sporting everything the GSR does and adds lighter-weight BBS forged alloy wheels, two-piece front brake rotors, a slightly softer suspension, a smaller rear lip spoiler, and height-adjustable xenon headlamps.
Mitsubishi spices things up even further, offering a number of extra packages and standalone features. These include a Sight and Sound Package, Sunroof and Leather package, and an Exterior package.
Exterior/Interior
The 2015 Lancer Evolution by all definitions is easy on the eyes. Sporting slightly more traditional styling than its rivals is a boon to the vehicle’s appeal. From the front, the car appears to naturally lean forward and wedge itself toward the ground. Other visual highlights include an aggressive front fascia and rear spoiler. The Evo model further distinguishes itself by virtue of an extended wheelbase and shorter, lower stance.
Inside, the Lancer’s interior has a purposeful feel. The controls fall within easy reach, the seats are easily adjustable, and the shifter (for those selecting the manual transmission) practically falls into your hand; everything just feels so incredibly natural and driver-focused.
Safety
Despite its adventurous nature, the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution delivers world-class safety. Standard equipment includes antilock brakes, front seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag, stability and traction control, and Mitsubishi’s core handling technologies. For added safety and convenience, rear parking sensors are also available.
Bottom Line
The Lancer Evolution is purpose-built for enthusiasts who love to drive hard and fast. If you’re searching for a car that delivers unfiltered fun and engagement while retaining a robust level of refinement and practicality, search no further than this iconic Mitsubishi.
