2016 Hyundai Tucson Touches Down in NYC with Upgraded Style, Features

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is a new compact crossover SUV. While it technically made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the 2016 Tucson recently made its U.S. debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show in April.
Dashing New Design
One of the most exciting aspects of the 2016 Tucson is its new sleek and sculpted design. While the current model is quite dashing in its own right, the 2016 Tucson employs a bolder and aggressive hexagonal-shaped grille with slightly canted front headlights – complete with LED accents and integrated LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) – that sweep back into the fenders.
The Tucson’s wheelbase has been increased by more than an inch, enhancing the design proportions, and for the first time, the Tucson will be available with 19-inch alloy wheels that incorporate a dynamic asymmetrical spoke design.
Other smart visual highlights include LED approach lamps for the door handles, a new low-profile roof, and a Z-shaped character line above the rear wheels, which further emphasizes the 2016 Tucson’s aggressive, sporty side profile.
Super-Sized
Beyond the visual enhancements, the new Tucson benefits from an upgraded, roomier interior. There’s an available full-length panoramic sunroof, and the cabin is replete with premium soft-touch materials, including more refined touch points and interior switchgear. Tech lovers will also appreciate the standard 5-inch center console display.
The 2016 Tucson is both longer and wider, with a longer wheelbase than the previous model. The increase in dimensions directly impacts the Tucson’s versatility. There’s more interior space for occupants, and the overall cargo room has increased to 31.0 cubic feet—a full five cubic feet over the previous model. For even greater flexibility, the rear liftgate has been enlarged, and the 60/40 rear seatbacks now enjoy a greater range of adjustable recline.
All-Wheel-Power
When it arrives, the 2016 Tucson will feature an impressive range of powertrains. Base models will employ a 2.0-liter direct-injected four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission capable of producing an estimated 164 horsepower and 151 pound feet of torque.
That engine is joined by an available 1.6-liter turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder engine with an estimated 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged engine employ a variety of technologies to enhance performance and better fuel efficiency.
The turbocharged engine will come mated to a new, first-in-segment seven-speed EcoShift® dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that delivers outstanding fuel efficiency with quick and precise shifting.
Adding to the 2016 Tucson’s performance chops is an available advanced all-wheel-drive system. Featuring a driver selectable AWD lock that can split the torque between the front and rear wheels, the system allows for greater off-road or low-traction driving.
AS for safety, the 2016 Tucson will come equipped with a comprehensive suite of features designed to keep occupants safe at all times. Available and advanced safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian recognition, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a standard back-up camera.
The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is expected to go on sale later this summer, and is shaping up to quite the crossover SUV, thanks to a stylish exterior, premium-filled cabin, and efficient yet energetic powertrains.
