2017 Acura RDX
The Sportier Side of Luxury
With the 2017 RDX, Acura has perfected the compact luxury SUV. Not only does the RDX boast excellent cargo and passenger space, it also comes well-equipped with a host of features that are sure to make your commute more enjoyable. The RDX isn't just for you sensible folks either—this SUV has a wild side. It combines a powerful yet efficient V6 engine with responsive handling, meaning the 2017 RDX is sure to please both left- and right-brain types with its all-around awesomeness.
Performance
The 2017 Acura RDX is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 279 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. While some SUVs struggle to move their mass, the RDX boasts a broader torque curve for better acceleration.
The V6 is harnessed to a six-speed automatic transmission, with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive system is particularly impressive because of its emphasis toward a greater rear torque bias, which also helps sharpen handling along with paddle shifters for the six-speed automatic transmission.
Acura also equipped the engine with Variable Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation, which shuts off three of the six cylinders under light load to help save fuel. That works to fairly good effect, as the RDX achieves an EPA-rated 23 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway) with front-wheel drive, and 22 mpg combined (19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway) with all-wheel drive.*
Features
The 2017 Acura RDX is a five-door, five-seat compact luxury SUV, offered in a single trim level. It comes generously equipped (see below) and is priced starting at $35,570.**
Notable standard features include a power tailgate, Bluetooth®, Siri® Eyes Free voice control for iPhone® users, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button ignition, sport seats with leatherette trim, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat back, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power moonroof, and a rearview camera.
In addition to those standard features, the AcuraWatch™ Plus Package includes Acura’s latest electronic driver aids. Beyond that, the Technology Package adds a rear cross-traffic monitor, navigation, an On-Demand Multi-Use Display, premium audio system, Aha™ capability, HD Radio™, GPS-linked climate control, leather seats, and other features.
To get everything there is to offer, we recommend the Advance Package, which includes fog lights, heated and ventilated front seats, remote engine start, auto-dimming side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, parking sensors, and more.
Design
What good is a luxury crossover SUV if it isn't pleasing to look at? Thankfully, the 2017 Acura RDX sidesteps those concerns by sporting an upscale design that is equal parts sophisticated and sporty.
All the usual elements are on display. Last year's addition of Jewel Eye® headlights and reworked grille make a welcome return and further underline the RDX's status as one of the more visually compelling models on the market.
On the inside, the 2017 RDX features high-contrast silver and black trim, a multifunction three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a matching leather-wrapped shift knob. Acura’s Active Sound Control system cancels out unpleasant noises to keep the cabin quiet, while ambient lighting helps set the mood.
A 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat helps this sport-utility vehicle satisfy the “utility” part of its mission. The RDX has a useful 103.5 cubic feet of passenger volume, 26.1 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear bench up, and 61.3 cubic feet with the seat folded.
Safety
Like all of our Acura models, the 2017 RDX will provide you with additional peace of mind thanks to its long list of standard and available safety features. Standard safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, and a full complement of airbags. The optional AcuraWatch™ Plus Package adds features like forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a Collision Mitigation Braking System™. The Technology Package adds a blind-spot information system and rear cross-traffic monitor, while the Advance Package includes those features plus front and rear parking sensors.
Bottom Line
The 2017 Acura RDX will impress you with its commitment to quality, performance, and luxury, but its emphasis on reliability and safety are what will truly win you over.
