2019 CADILLAC XT4

SCHEDULE A TEST DRIVE

Overview

You’ve seen Cadillac do the extra-large, go-anywhere, take-anyone, and look-good-doing-it SUV; that’s the Escalade. You’ve seen Cadillac do the ultra-modern, get-anything-you-want, versatile-but-still-efficient SUV; that’s the XT5. Now, Cadillac challenges itself once again and breaks into the popular compact crossover segment with the first-ever, high-tech, super-luxurious, but still somehow totally approachable XT4.

The Perfect Ride For:

You’ve wanted a Cadillac for as long as you can remember, but you’ve been holding out for something that fits your modest needs. The all-new XT4 takes everything that makes Cadillac a legend in the automotive industry (style, performance, opulence, durability, and don’t forget confidence) and neatly packs it all into an efficient and practical package. Plus, it’s still an SUV, so you get all that indefatigable versatility to boot. You got all this, and you get the prestige of driving a Cadillac, for the very approachable starting price of $34,795.*

Power

It says a lot that Cadillac has the confidence to plainly call its base trim level “Luxury.” In addition to the Luxury trim, you can choose from two other distinct trims: Premium Luxury and Sport. All trim levels are powered by a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Today’s turbo-4s offer cutting-edge performance, more comparable with the standard V6s and V8s of the past, but much lighter and more efficient, producing 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. And with advanced Active Fuel Management and multiple selectable driving modes, the XT4 achieves superior fuel-economy, returning an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway in the front-wheel-drive model, as well as an admirable 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway in the all-wheel-drive model.**

Style

With each trim level, you’re getting the same durable 18-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, but with increasingly impressive finishes, from Bright Silver, to Pearl Nickle, or to the impervious Diamond Cut (20-inch Dynamic 9-spoke and 20-inch Twin 5-spoke wheels are also available). In the Luxury or Premium Luxury trims, you’re also going to appreciate other exterior aesthetic options, like a bright metallic accented grille, illuminating satin chrome accent door handles, and satin aluminum roof rails and side window surrounds. For the Sport trim, you can keep a low-profile when you go off-road with a gloss-black mesh grille and side window surrounds with body-color door handles, and you can haul your bikes, canoes, or any other kind of gear on the gloss-black roof rails.

Technology

On the inside, all trim levels come standard with the innovative Cadillac user experience with a rotary controller (pictured above), which lets the driver effortlessly control the robust suite of infotainment functions within close reach in the center console. Easily control navigation, audio, and phone calls with the rotary dial, or you can use voice commands or the vivid color touchscreen in the dash. And through all these high-tech controls, you can command a master performance from the 7-speaker audio system with an auxiliary amplifier, standard on all trims. Up above, you’ll like the available Rear Camera Mirror, which streams rear-facing video directly to the rear-view mirror; don’t worry, with the press of a button, it reverts right back to a tradition mirror like nothing ever happened.

Comfort

Because this is a crossover, you’re getting generous seating appointments and ample storage with all of these high-tech amenities. Passengers in the front will appreciate the available massaging seats with both heat and cool ventilation. Backseat passengers will appreciate the segment-leading rear legroom and knee clearance. If you’re hauling cargo instead of the crew, you’ll appreciate the hands-free liftgate. It projects the Cadillac logo onto the ground to show you the way, and it opens the liftgate for you when you wave your foot in front of the convenient sensor below the rear bumper. After that, you’ll have plenty of room to store your gear with multiple configurations available, thanks to the 60/40 folding rear seats (pictured below).

Safety

Finally, the XT4 offers an artist’s palette for Cadillac’s opus magnum of modern advanced safety features. You and your passengers can rest easy knowing that a suite of computer-powered, laser-guided active and passive safety features are looking out for you every step of the way—and in every direction, too. For example, set the available Adaptive Cruise Control and let the XT4 automatically maintain the distance from the car ahead while cruising down the highway. For another example, the XT4 features the unique Safety Alert Seat, which alerts drivers to potential dangers on the road using discreet vibrating pulses in different sides of the driver’s seat. Or how about the available automatic braking system? Using the XT4’s forward-facing sensors, it can detect hazards in the road and alert the driver or even autonomously apply the brakes before the driver can even react.
