Overview
The 2020 Palisade is an introductory model for Hyundai. This isn’t the first time Hyundai has introduced a three-row SUV, but it is the first time they’ve done it this well. The new Palisade replaces some variants of the Santa Fe as well as an outmoded model; the Veracruz. The Palisade sets its sights on some of the established contenders in the segment, such as the Volkswagen Atlas, Mazda CX-9, and Chevy Traverse. However, this Palisade is packing something competitors are not; abundant luxury.
Design
The exterior aesthetic of the Palisade is one of reserved sophistication. Up front, Hyundai is employing their new grille that can be found on other Hyundai SUVs. However, what the other Hyundai models don’t get are the cascading waterfall-effect running lights beginning just under the hood and running vertically to the upper portion of the bumper. Many other manufacturers have attempted this bold design with running lights, but very few can make LEDs look as good as Hyundai. Moving to the profile, the Palisade maintains a classic SUV shape, maximizing headroom and cargo-space with a modern twist. A chrome strip running up the pillar behind the rear doors provides a unique character to the body and a lively contrast to any of the seven available colors. The rear of the vehicle keeps the excitement coming with a three-dimensional effect to the LED taillights. “PALISADE” spelled across the trunk in large bold letters conveys a sense of rugged capability. Additionally, a dual-port exhaust protruding from the right-hand side of the rear bumper suggests an element of sportiness provided by the available V6 engine.
Interior
While the exterior of Hyundai’s 2020 Palisade conveys a sense of rugged charm, the interior subscribes to a different theme; one of luxury and elegance. Immediately upon entering the cabin, you are met with exquisite build materials and a design that rivals those of up-market brands. The optional leather upholstery comes in a unique quilting pattern making the cabin feel incredibly rich. The main attraction of the interior, however, could very well be the massive 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen coupled with, an even bigger, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster displaying all the information you need to command the eight-passenger Palisade. Style and screens aside, the interior dimensions of this 2020 Palisade are truly gargantuan and offer some of the most unrestricted legroom and headroom of any vehicle in this class. This unbounded space, comfort, and luxury are not exclusive to the first two rows, either. The third row of the Hyundai Palisade is not only finished with amenities such as air vents and phone chargers, but it also packs enough room for full-grown adults to inhabit on long-distance road-trips.
Features
The 2020 Hyundai Palisade has space enough to accommodate your entire family, but does it have the tech to keep up with everyone’s life? Yes, Palisade has you covered. With a myriad of USB-C outlets, not only can everyone charge their devices, but they will be able to get juiced back up faster than traditional USBs. The 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment isn’t just for show either. You will be able to interface with both Apple CarPlay© as well as Android Auto™. If you don’t like Waze, you can always use Hyundai’s built-in Navigation system operated through the touchscreen as well. In addition to convenience, Palisade also offers a suite of the latest safety equipment, aptly named Hyundai SmartSense which includes Blind-Spot Monitoring, Front-Collision Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Safe Exit Assist, and Cross-Traffic Collision Assist. Ultrasonic Rear Occupant Alert is also available with addition to an intercom system to cast your voice from the driver’s seat through the speakers throughout the car.
Performance
The engine powering the 8-passenger Palisade is a 3.8 liter V6 pumping out 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. All that power gets sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission and finds itself at all four wheels of the vehicle. With the advanced eight-speed transmission, the Palisade is able to accomplish 20 miles per gallon city and 26 miles per gallon highway with all-wheel-drive, which is impressive for a vehicle of this size.*
Verdict
The 2020 Hyundai Palisade may be the first of its kinda from Hyundai, but you wouldn’t able to tell. Every detail is meticulously refined. The Palisade perfectly blends beauty, elegance, luxury, technology, and comfort making it a leader in its class and a must-look if you’re in need of a vehicle to accommodate up to eight passengers.
