Drive and Handling

We aren’t surprised that the drivetrain of the all-new MDX is just as impressive as its exterior. The 3.5-liter V6 engine is capable of up to 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. Direct injection, i-VTEC™ technology, and Variable Cylinder Management work together to deliver powerful fuel economy without sacrificing performance. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift and standard paddle shifters, drivers will enjoy the special attention to performance engineers paid in the new MDX. 

Like previous models, the 2022 MDX is standard with front-wheel drive but Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) is available. This intelligent, torque vectoring system sends power to the wheels with the most traction and can divert up to 70 percent of the engine’s torque to the rear. The result is unbeatable traction and agility. Steering is responsive and precise thanks to the Electric Power Steering system and larger front brakes provide reduced brake fade for improved braking. The new MDX features an Integrated Dynamics System. Controlled by a knob on the center of the dash, you can choose how the engine, transmission, SH-AWD (when equipped), and steering properties perform with five settings: Snow, Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Individual.

If you’re as much of a tech enthusiast as you are a gearhead, the 2022 Acura MDX is going to meet all of your demands. The 12.3-inch ultra-wide HD center display is standard and allows you to command the infotainment system with ease. Connect with Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, Amazon Alexa, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi all from inside the MDX. Emergency roadside assistance, remote control, remote diagnostics, and Acura concierge services are all at your fingertips. USB-C, USB-A, and Qi-compatible wireless charging offer a variety of ways to keep your devices charged and connected. CabinControl® is a unique capability that allows passengers to control music, rear heating and air conditioning, navigation, and the moonroof’s shade position from the back seats, using a smartphone app. CabinControl makes it easier than ever to be a great co-pilot. The Technology Packages upgrades the standard 9-speaker 350-watt sound system to an ELS Studio® system with 12-speakers and 550-watts. If you’re an audiophile, though, it will be worth it to upgrade to the A-SPEC or Advance Package for the ELS STUDIO 3D® audio system with 16-speakers and 710-watts for sound production that rivals a concert hall.

Reimagined Safety

When you purchase an Acura, you’re purchasing peace of mind on the road. The automaker has prioritized safety because everyone in the Acura family wants to protect your family on the road. The 2022 MDX gets an updated version of AcuraWatch™, Acura’s advanced driver assistance features. Road Departure Mitigation, Traffic Jam Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pedestrian Detection, and Driver Attention Monitor all come standard on the MDX. These features reduce driving fatigue, collisions, and unintentional maneuvers while driving. Most people don’t put much consideration into their vehicle’s airbags until they need them. However, Acura has introduced its award-winning passenger airbag. Featured in both the redesigned TLX and the 2022 MDX, this airbag has a three-chamber design that cradles the front passenger better during a front end collision, leading to reduced injuries. Combined with Acura's Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, new headlights, and new LATCH points, pedestrians and occupants alike are safer than ever in the new MDX.
