Drive & Handling
The 3.6-liter V6 that produces 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque is available on the Premium Luxury and standard on the Sport trim. The 2.0-liter engine is standard on the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims, and is capable of up to 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift, Cadillac’s first electronic shifter. It eliminates any mechanical linkage between the shifter and transmission, which Cadillac says reduces noise and vibration in addition to creating more usable cabin space.
While front-wheel drive is standard, the XT5 wouldn’t be much of a crossover without an all-wheel drive option. As such, it receives not just any all-wheel drive system, but a new twin-clutch setup that can transfer up to 100 percent of torque to either the front or rear axle. It’s designed for “split-coefficient” situations, such as when there is more snow or ice on one side of the road than the other. Even in dry conditions, it offers confidence-inspiring handling.
The Driver-Selectable Modes allow you to tailor the performance of the XT5 to your needs and the road conditions. The all-wheel drive model features four different modes and the front-wheel drive model offers 3 different modes. It doesn't get much more personalized than that. Real-Time Damping adjusts the suspension based on the road conditions for a buttery smooth ride you'd expect from Cadillac. With the Stabilitrak system, you never have to worry about losing traction, even in snow, ice, and mud.

This system combines a conventional rearview mirror with the display for a rearview camera. When viewing the video, software “removes” obstacles like the rear pillars, improving rearward visibility by 300 percent, according to the automaker. The display can be switched back to mirror mode at the press of a button.
