2022 Hyundai Kona Electric

Overview

The 2022 Kona Electric is Hyundai’s latest zero-emissions version of its subcompact SUV offering. And just like its gasoline-powered sibling, the electrified Kona is thoroughly refreshed for 2022. The all-new front fascia does away with any notions of an engine residing under the hood. The customary open grille gives way to a sleek, solid grille that’s reminiscent of other pure electric vehicles currently on the market. The charging port resides upfront for added convenience and, when it’s not in use, cleverly hidden by an offset door. Step inside and you’ll find a thoroughly redesigned interior complete with an available full-color 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an equally large touch screen display.

The Perfect Ride For…

Electric car fans in search of something a bit out of the ordinary. The new front-end treatment directly speaks to the 2022 Kona Electric’s mission as a stylish and practical EV, while the revamped styling overall makes the electric subcompact SUV rather pleasing to the eyes. Thanks to its impressive 258-mile range, the Kona Electric is also the perfect car for anyone looking to make gas pumps a thing of the past. No matter what type of driver you are, you’ll appreciate the many thoughtful touches throughout the Kona Electric’s cabin, including the floating center console that offers plenty of storage space underneath.

Drive and Handling

The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric gets its motivation from a 150-kilowatt electric motor paired with a 64-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. With 201 total system horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque sent to the front wheels, you’ll always have ample power and near-instant torque when you need it most. Unparalleled efficiency is the name of the EV game, so it’s not surprising that the Kona Electric garners an estimated 132 MPGe city and 108 MPGe highway, according to Hyundai’s own testing. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning are also included as part of Hyundai’s SmartSense safety suite.

Key Features

Charging Capabilities

The 2022 Kona Electric gives you two ways to charge up. The electric subcompact SUV’s onboard Level II charging system lets you plug into an ordinary 220/240-volt home outlet and charge from 10 percent to 100 percent in under 10 hours. The Kona Electric also comes with Level III charging capability. When hooked up to a DC fast charger, the Kona Electric can power up to an 80-percent charge in as little as 47 minutes. There’s also an available battery warmer system that helps prevent excessive charging and preserve battery life under cold weather conditions.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make it easier than ever to use mobile apps and stream your favorite tunes without annoying cords or cables getting in the way. All you have to do is connect your compatible smartphone via Bluetooth and the Kona Electric’s infotainment system will do the rest.

Bluelink® App

The Bluelink smartphone app puts you in complete control of your 2022 Kona Electric. Not only can you lock, unlock and start your vehicle remotely, but you can also use the app to find points of interest via text or voice command and receive directions just before you set off. The Bluelink app also lets you manage your charging schedule, so you can charge up your Kona Electric as soon as it’s plugged in or start charging during off-peak periods to save money on utility costs. You can also check important stats including current battery level and time remaining until full charge.
