Overview
The compact sedan segment remains as competitive as ever, especially as most buyers are tightening their belts. The 2023 Hyundai Elantra stands out from the pack thanks to its amazing value and its focus on passenger comfort and fuel efficiency. The only noteworthy change for the 2023 model year is the addition of a 10.25-inch touch screen display for the SEL as part of the Convenience Package.
The Perfect Ride For…
Value-minded shoppers will definitely get their money’s worth from the 2023 Hyundai Elantra. The snazzy compact’s striking exterior design remains unchanged from its 2021 debut. The sculpted body lines accentuate many of the Elantra’s distinctive features, including the wide and intricately detailed front fascia. Inside, the Elantra’s well-designed cabin looks more upscale than its price tag lets on. The SE Convenience Package adds plenty of must-have interior features, including a wireless charging pad, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Limited models gain a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, further adding to the Elantra cabin’s high-tech look and feel.
Drive and Handling
A naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine serves as the motivating force for the Elantra in SE, SEL, and Limited trims. Power comes out to a modest 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, but the Smartstream® Intelligent Variable Transmission lets it achieve an EPA-estimated 37 mpg combined (33 mpg city/42 mpg highway) in SE guise. The SE also comes equipped with Idle Stop & Go, which allows the engine to shut down at long stops and quickly start up when needed. A Drive Mode Select feature lets you toggle between Normal, Sport, and Smart modes, giving you greater flexibility for the daily commute, spirited jaunts, or moments when you just want to maximize your fuel efficiency.
The SE’s standard 15-inch alloy wheels allow for beefy 195/65-R15 tires with plenty of sidewall for smothering potholes and other road imperfections. The SEL and Limited trims get 16-inch and 17-inch alloys, respectively. Regardless of tire choice, all Elantras benefit from a suspension setup with MacPherson struts plus a stabilizer up front and a torsion beam axle at the rear. The end result is a comfortable ride that still offers sharp, responsive handling whenever the need for it arises.
Key Features
Spacious Interior
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra offers more interior space than some of its rivals, especially when it comes to headroom and legroom. Up front, the Elantra boasts 38.9 inches of hat-friendly headroom and 42.3 inches of stretch-worthy legroom. Rear passengers will enjoy up to 37.3 inches of headroom and 38 inches of legroom. The Elantra also offers ample amounts of hip and shoulder room.
Infotainment Features
The 2023 Elantra’s standard 8-inch touch screen display is remarkably easy to use with basic volume and tuning controls located on either side of the screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility lets you link your smartphone wirelessly. An available 10.25-inch high-resolution touch screen display brings built-in navigation capability.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Elantra comes with the Hyundai SmartSense suite of safety and driver-assistive features. These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist. Driver Attention Warning and High Beam Assist also come standard. Move up to the SEL and you’ll find Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian, Cyclist, and Junction-Turning Detection, as well as Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go.
Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance
Hyundai is making it easier than ever to take care of your new Elantra and keep your cost of ownership down. The Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance Program covers normal, factory-scheduled maintenance for 3 years or 36,000 miles.
