The ubiquitous 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine plays a staring role in most Grand Cherokee models, delivering solid and reliable power combined with silky V6 smoothness. You’ll get 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque while enjoying up to an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.* HEMI fans can rejoice over the availability of the famous 5.7-liter HEMI V8 in the Grand Cherokee L. This powerplant puts out an impressive 357 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, giving the stretched SUV up to 7,200 pounds of maximum towing capacity. 

Last up is the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder found in the 4xe plug-in hybrid models.  Paired with an electric motor and efficient battery, this dynamic combo packs a surprisingly solid punch. You’ll get up to 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque – enough to tow up to 6,000 pounds with surprising ease while enjoying up to 470 miles of maximum driving range. Even better, the Grand Cherokee 4xe lets you drive up to 25 miles on electric power alone. Oh, and it also features a watertight battery pack that lets you ford 24 inches of water without worry.

You’ll also get the usual assortment of Jeep 4x4 and AWD systems, including the Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II. The former gives you a two-speed transfer case that adds low-range capability for enhanced off-road traction, while the latter lets you funnel up to 100 percent of available torque to a single rear wheel via an Electronic Limited Slip Differential.
