What’s New For 2024?
Everything. Not only does the 2024 Tacoma ride on an all-new platform with all-new styling, but it also features all-new drivetrain options, including a variant of the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain system. The interior gains a thorough redesign with a bolder look and feel that perfectly matches the Tacoma’s brawny exterior. New trim levels are also available, including the thoroughly rugged Trailhunter and the returning PreRunner.
Who’s It For?
Everyone. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a diehard Tacoma fan or someone just interested in a midsize pickup truck. There’s a 2024 Tacoma to fit anyone’s personality, let alone budget. The SR and SR5 are both compelling choices for anyone in search of an honest, basic truck with the right amenities. The PreRunner features a roomy XtraCab configuration that trades rear seating for extra interior cargo room and a lockable storage panel. The luxury-oriented Limited offers plenty of chrome accents and an Adaptive Variable Suspension to smooth out rough roads. The Trailhunter and TRD Pro will sate anyone’s taste for a no-holds-barred off-roading machine, as both trims offer a plethora of upgrades geared towards life off the beaten path. These include high-clearance front bumpers with built-in recovery hooks and upgraded off-road suspensions.
Real World Performance
Say goodbye to the Tacoma’s old 2.7-liter 4-cylinder and 4.0-liter V6 engines. In their stead is a single 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, part of the i-FORCE family of engines. It kicks out a respectable 228 horsepower in the base SR model but ramps up to a more substantial 278 horsepower in higher trims. The 2.4-liter mill also comes in i-FORCE MAX hybrid form, topping out at 326 horsepower and a stout 465 pound-feet of torque thanks to an electric motor and battery. Most trims come with your choice of an 8-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission, but those equipped with the i-FORCE MAX engine are strictly an automatic affair.
Rear leaf springs underpin the SR and extended-cab SR5, while the double-cab version of the SR5 and above feature coil springs for a smoother ride. The TRD Sport gains a sport-tuned suspension while the TRD Off-Road utilizes monotube shocks sourced from Bilstein, complete with remote reservoirs. The Trailhunter and TRD Pro each feature suspension upgrades, with the former gaining Old Man Emu 2.5-inch forged monotube shocks and the latter featuring 2.5-inch FOX Internal Bypass shocks, both featuring rear piggyback-style remote reservoirs.
