Ways to Give Back this Holiday Season

It's the season for gratitude and giving and the MotorWorld | MileOne Autogroup team is here with some ideas to inspire you to get involved. Whether you can donate time, unused items, or finances, the holiday season is a great time to think back on what a great year it has been and how fortunate we all have been, while helping those who might need some extra assistance this holiday season.

Donations

From food to gently used clothing to time, you can make so many donations that don’t cost a thing. Go through your pantry and donate any nonperishable items you don’t think you’ll use. Go through your closet and donate clothing to an organization that supports the community. Spend some time with senior citizens at retirement homes or go to an animal shelter and offer to socialize the animals or clean out kennels. 

You can also donate toys to children who may not have anything to open on Christmas morning or make financial donations to organizations in the name of loved ones as holiday gifts. 

Food Drives

Organize a food drive to support your local food bank. Whether it’s just at your office or you place collection boxes across town (with permission), anything helps. You and your friends can compete to see who can make the biggest donations, or you can simply drop a few items in the next collection box you come across. 

Volunteering

Many organizations like Meals on Wheels, animal shelters, soup kitchens, and the Salvation Army need people to donate their time. These organizations rely on others to provide services.

Pay it Forward

Feeling generous one day? Notice that the person behind you in line at the coffee shop seems to be having a bad day? Pay it forward and buy someone’s coffee. This small gesture can mean so much and make you pay more attention to the people around you. 

 Leave Snacks for Your Mail Carriers

Holidays are a difficult season for people in retail, as well as those who deliver our packages. Leave some snacks and drinks as a pick-me-up for your mailman on the front porch, with a thank you note on days when you know you have packages coming. They’ll appreciate your gratitude.
